Onteora
is the home of our resident Boy Scout
summer camp, hosts Bear Claw NYLT,
the National Youth Leadership Training course in August and provides
short-term camping
facilities year-round.
The camp has 1,400-acres, and it is
located in the
Catskill Forest Preserve
approximately 6 miles from the Livingston Manor (exit 96) on NYS Route 17.
The "Land in the Sky" is located above 2,000 feet in
elevation and is heavily forested. Our trail system
accesses state-maintained trails in the
Willowemoc Wild Forest.
Orchard Lake and Sprague Brook features fine trout fishing,
and is part of the
Beaverkill
watershed, the historic heart of American fly-fishing.
Tent and lean-to sites, and the
Blauvelt Lodge provides short-term camping facilities during the fall,
winter, and spring seasons.
Bluenose, the council winter camping event, is held on President's
Day weekend and provides a great opportunity to experience cold weather
camping.
