Nassau County (Troop 1, Rockville Centre) has the distinction of being the home of America's first Eagle Scout, Arthur R. Eldred

The goals of Scouting — citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness —remain important for all Scouts, whether or not they attain the Eagle Scout rank.

The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service.

Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 4 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. This represents more than 1 million Boy Scouts who have earned the rank since 1911.

Scouts will learn what is needed to go from the planning stages of their project through its completion, their board of review and their Eagle Court of Honor. Eagle Scouts on the Onteora staff will teach and share their experiences.

THE PATH TO EAGLE

Once you have earned the Life Scout rank and are ready to begin your Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook will help you plan and record your progress and complete and submit a final report. Print or download the packet by clicking on the link.

Life to Eagle work packets are also available free of charge at the Council  Service Center at 544 Broadway, Massapequa, NY or by calling 516.797.7600.

INSIDE THE WORKBOOK:

  1. Read a message from the Chief Scout Executive to Life Scouts

  2. Learn about the Twelve Steps from Life to Eagle

  3. Review the requirements for leadership service projects

The Council Service Center requests all Eagle Scout Rank Applications be accompanied by a short summary (2 – 3 sentences) of the scout’s Eagle Rank Service Project.   The Council Service Center incorporates the  summary of the  scout’s information on his Eagle Service Project for the council Eagle Scout Service Project Database so that they can have a report listing each scout’s individual projects.

U.S. Postal Service Certificates of Recognition

The United States Postal Service has a newly designed recognition certificate for presentation to new Eagle Scouts. The certificate shows the USPS logo and the (old) BSA logo. What makes this certificate special is a reproduction of the $.03 Boy Scouts of America commemorative stamp issued in 1950. To obtain a certificate, mail your request, listing the name of the new Eagle Scout, to the Postmaster General.
