tHE YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONTINUUM - What is it? The Youth Leadership Training Continuum has three parts: TROOP LEADERSHIP TRAINING (TLT) is basic training conducted by the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader at the unit level. The Scoutmaster and senior patrol leader will conduct this three-hour training whenever there are new Scouts or there has been a shift in leadership positions within the patrol or the troop. Go to the TLT page. Bear Claw NYLT is a program where youth leaders are provided with leadership and teambuilding skills to manage the troop program by experience youth leaders. This program is prepared by a council-recruited staff. Read more on this page. National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience NAYLE) is a hand-on program held at Philmont Scout Reservation for youth leaders who have successfully completed TLT and Bear Claw. The NAYLE page is located at www.scouting.org. Click here for BSA 18-632 The Youth Leadership Training Continuum (updated 1/24/10) Bear Claw NYLT participants experience and observe the stages of team development through experiencing a month in the life of a troop, including patrol and troop meetings, program, and an outpost trip. Participants acquire a toolbox of leadership skills including planning, conflict resolution, and evaluation. Our objective is for the participants to have fun and to return to their troops with enthusiasm and ideas that will help make their job a lot easier and improve the troop’s program. Who Should Attend? Participants do not have to be serving currently in a leadership role, but should have the skills and abilities to do so in the future. Onteora Bear Claw will have a limit of 36 participants and will be conducted as a one-week course in August. Schiff Bear Claw has 24 participants, and will be conducted on two weekends in July. What are the Qualifications for Participants?
Each participant
must be 13
years of age or older and a First Class Scout by The troop Scoutmaster must first approve the Scout’s application and verified that Troop Leadership Training has been completed by the applicant. Fees for the 2010 courses are $335 Fees cover meals, patrol and troop equipment, binder, T-shirts, program supplies, course preparation, and insurance. Please pay the Council Service Center directly; all checks please place 1-6801-047-20 Bear Claw in the memo field. |
