Local and National Tour Permits

Tour permits must now be filed online through the My Scouting Portal

Leaders, you will need your ID number from your BSA card to create an account on the system.  The portal is managed by the National BSA office.

A Local Tour Permit Application is required for:

  • Your unit register AS a unit for an overnight camping trip, an overnight trip or camporee.
  • You are doing anything involving water (swimming/aquatics/boating/canoeing).
To clarify, if you are taking your troop to Schiff for a weekend trip - YES,
    you need a tour permit.
  • If you are taking your troop to the local pool to work on the Swimming Merit
Badge - YES, you need a tour permitt.
  • Please remember that the tour
permit application must be filed online two
    	weeks
in advance of scheduled activity for proper clearance.
You do not need a tour permit for local activities like:
  • If you are taking your pack to the local fire house - NO, you do not need a
    tour permit.
  • If you are meeting to unit at the church/school to work on a service project
(including Eagle Service Projects) - NO, you do not need a tour permit.
  • Please note for Webelos Woods and Cub Parent Weekends - since you register
WITH your troop BUT you register with your individual names, you will NOT
    need a tour permit.

Effective January 1, 2009 any unit going camping must have at least one adult leader trained in Hazardous Weather Training. This training is only available online and can be accessed through our council website and linked through nationals training page.

For Cub Camping,  at least one leader must be BALOO trained to go on any overnighter with Cub Scouts. BALOO training is posted at the Training Courses page.

A National Tour Permit is required for:

All groups traveling to areas 500 miles or more one way from home area (local council camp excepted), or crossing national boundaries into the territory of other nations. It is essential that you read Tours and Expeditions, No. 33737D, before filling out this form.

This application should be submitted online for approval at least one month before your tour

All other standards of training and leadership listed on the tour permit application and found in the Guide to Safe Scouting  are in effect at all times whether a tour permit is required or not.
