Patches are still available to present to any Scout or Leader who attends

a Religious Service to celebrate the Birthday of Boy Scouting.

Eagle Scout Letter

The Most Rev. William F. Murphy, Bishop of Rockville Centre, is pleased to send a letter of congratulations to all Catholic Scouts upon their reception of Eagle Scout Rank. The Catholic Committee also presents a certificate and special patch to Eagle recipients. Court of Honor Chairs are asked to send a letter indicating the scout’s name, unit number, presentation date, location and parish of the recipient to the Catholic Scouting

Office, 50 North Park Avenue, Rockville Centre 11570 or scouting@drvc.org.  Requests should be sent at least four weeks in advance.


Venture Crew 333

Venture Crew 333 sponsored by the Diocese of Rockville Centre is seeking new members. The Crew assists the Catholic Committee in its work at retreats, Cub Scout Fun and Faith Days, important Diocesan function and the Annual Boy Scout Convocation. in addition, time is found for a number of fun activities. Those interested in joining should contact the Catholic Scouting Office at 516-678-5800, ext. 245 or scouting@drvc.org.


Counselor Training

The Diocese of Rockville Centre requires that Ad Altare Dei Counselors and Pope Pius XII Facilitators be trained to work with scouts seeking these emblems.

ATTENTION ALL PACK and TROOP LEADERS

RELIGIOUS EMBLEMS FOR CATHOLIC CUB SCOUTS

LIGHT OF CHRIST  - available for all Catholic Tiger or Wolf Cubs. All requirements must be completed prior to September 1 of the year the Scout enters  third grade.

PARVULI DEI – available for all Catholic Cub and Webelos Scouts in third grade and above. Requirements must be completed prior to entry into Boy Scouts.

These emblems may be earned and presented at any time during the year. Books for the Light of Christ Emblem and the Parvuli Dei Emblem may be purchased at your local SCOUT SHOP or from the Catholic Scouting Office.

The NCCS Good Turn Service Project was instituted by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting® Religious Activities standing committee to recognize Catholic-chartered units for their service to the charter organization

Foot Steps of American Saints

The  “Footsteps  Of  American  Saints”  is  a   religious  activity program  for  cub  scouts,  boy  scouts  and  adults.  In  2009,  the  focus  is  on  St.  Elizabeth  Ann  Seton,  St.  John  Newmann,  Blessed  Kateri  Tekakwita,   St.  Peter  Claver,   St.  Issac  Jogues,  St.  Frances  Xavier  Cabrini,  Blessed  Andre    Bessette,  Blessed  Mother  Marianne  Cope,  St.  Katherine  Drexel,  St.  Damien  Of  Molokai,  St.  Isidore  (The  Farmer),  Blessed  Junipero  Serra,  And  Blessed  Carlos  Rodriguez.    Additional  saints  will be  introduced  in  2011. Rosary Patch Series

The  Rosary  Patch  Series  includes  five  patches  (Joyful Mysteries, Luminous Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries, Glorious Mysteries, Pray The Rosary).  The  Rosary  Patch  Series  is  a  religious  activity  and  is  not  a  religious  emblem.   Call the  committee  for  details  or  go  to  the  NATIONAL  CATHOLIC  COMMITTEE  ON  SCOUTING  WEBSITE.

Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting® has established the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Distinguished Scout Scholarship to be awarded to five outstanding Catholic high school seniors who are Scouts in a BSA program and continuing their education in college. The requirements are listed in the Eligibility Requirements section on this page. Applications are due to the NCCS office by March 1 of each year.  Go to the scholarship web page.

SUNDAY MASS OBLIGATION

Father Gerard Gentleman, Diocesan Scouting Chaplain, has asked that Catholic Scouts, leaders and parents be reminded that attendance at Sunday Mass is a vital part of their faith life.
Plans should be made to attend Sunday Mass during or after any camping trip or scouting activity. Participation in a scouting activity does NOT excuse a scout, parent or leader from this obligation.

RELIGIOUS EMBLEMS FOR BOY SCOUTS

Candidates for the Ad Altare Dei Emblem MUST HAVE COMPLETED the SIXTH grade and be active in their troop for six months before beginning this program.

Candidates for the Pope Pius XII Emblem MUST HAVE BEGUN NINTH grade to begin work on the program. Female members of a Venture Crew may earn the Pope Pius XII Emblem.

Virtus Program

The VIRTUS  PROGRAM,  “PROTECTING  GOD’S  CHILDREN”,  is  provided  by  the  Diocese  Of  Rockville  Centre.   To  register  for  one  of  the scheduled sessions,  call the Catholic Scouting Office for scheduled sessions.  Once  you  have  attended  the  Virtus  training  session  you   need  not  attend  again  as  your  attendance  covers  all  parish  ministries  in  which  you  serve.
