Commissioners are district and council leaders who help Scout units succeed. They coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews. Commissioners help maintain the standards of the Boy Scouts of America. They also oversee the unit charter renewal plan so that each unit reregisters on time with an optimum number of youth and adult members.

THEODORE ROOSEVELT was the first council commissioner of our council.

ANDY JOHNS is our current council commissioner.

How Is Commissioner Service Organized?
At the national level, BSA has a National Commissioner. Similarly, each Council has a Council Commissioner and Assistant Council Commissioners. However, it is at the District level that you will find more than 95% of BSA's Commissioners serving. Whether as District Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioners, Roundtable Commissioners, or Unit Commissioners, these dedicated Scouters provide every aspect of Unit service.

District Commissioner
The District Commissioner is a volunteer who works with the Roundtable Commissioners, Unit Commisioners and Assistant District Commissioners in your district. These commissioners play several roles, including friend, representative, unit "doctor," teacher and counselor.

Your Unit Commissioner
The Unit Commissioner's mission is to provide guidance, and deliver meaningful service to the units that they serve. This brings about membership growth, ensures on time charter renewal, and helps units succeed. Unit Commissioners are assigned to a small group of individual units, and are available to address specific unit needs as they arise.

Roundtable Commissioners
Roundtable Commissioners provide unit leaders with resources and training in program skills through regularly scheduled roundtable meetings.  Go to the TRC Roundtables section at the Council Training page.
