|
||
|
Onteora Scout Reservation is part of the
Eastern Deciduous
Forest biome that
occupies the eastern half of the United States and south eastern Canada.
The World Wildlife Fund defines the forest in the camp region as part of the
Allegheny Highlands ecoregion
(NA0401), which has
changed from a forest dominated by hemlock and pine to the maples, oaks, and
aspens which are prevalent in the camp currently. |

The links on this page provide resources to explore the natural habitat of the camp. The camp is located in the Catskill Park, established by the State of New York in 1904 as a "forever wild" area so New Yorkers could enjoy the rugged beauty of the western Catskills. Use these for background information in Mammal Study , Reptile and Amphibian Study , Forestry , and Soil and Water Conservation merit badges. |
